After a hectic week with a closed school and children getting sick, I am glad it is finally weekend. In Lier everything is going well. We keep occupying the first place in the league and our CL Group Stage draw makes us dream!
The Champions League that’s where we start today’s update. After 2 wins last week against Galatasaray and Montpellier, FC Croatia is not able to slow us down. We keep our perfect record.
Welcome to our 5th and final season around the Zimmer tower in the city of Lier. We became the hot spot of Belgian football after 5 consecutive titles. Except when we hear the word “Cup”, that’s when we start shivering a bit.
But that’s the past. Dream big, especially when the world is called cm9798. A treble, how sweet would that be. Are you ready for a Mission Impossible? I am. And the lads are as well.
We have a top striker called Lilian Compan. He should give us goals. Last season a few excellent regens came to surface: Klews (Matthaus), Jesus (Nadal) and last but not least Dadason (Gudjohnsen). If you want to join the team, you’ll have to be a top player.
Since this week I am no longer the first one using this opening sentence. Keep doing it Deano, I am loving it!
We are now early February and we are still competing on all levels. We are leading the league, but the Big Three is breathing down our neck. Especially Anderlecht, so far they lost just once and will be the team to keep an eye on.
Last week we lost Lokonda for almost a year and also Lilian Compan is still injured. We’re counting on Lilian “Number 2” Laslandes to provide us goals. With Gudjohnsen Junior as number 10, that should be a pretty good combo as well, right?
It’s a happy Saturday today. Next week is a school holiday week here in Belgium and my 2 little ones need a little break – so does their dad!
Despite a good start last week we’re only in second position in the league. But it’s still early in the season and I am not too concerned. The Cup and especially the Champions League are the main targets. Last week we suffered a bad loss though at Red Star. Did we already screw our chance for qualification?
Before we start, you may wonder how Baldur (the Gudjohnsen regen) is doing? Believe it or not, but so far he hasn’t played a match yet. What the hell am I doing? I know! But I typically play him as my attacking midfielder and I just cannot throw this guy on the bench, can I? Fear not Baldur, your time will come!
Merry weekend to you all and a big welcome back to Philip after his short break. Now, where was he?
Happy Saturday and after a job-driven break welcome back to the great city of Lier. Time flies and we are already in season 4 with the “Pallieters”. In the league we became the team to beat after 3 titles in a row. In the Belgian Cup however we didn’t shine just yet and that becomes our domestic focus this year.
Our number 1 goal remains the same and that is winning the Champions League by the end of season 5. How realistic is that I hear you think? It’s for sure ambitious! This year we have to get at least past the Group Stage, if not it’s just a lost cause. Do we have the team to do that? I believe we do: it’s balanced and we have sufficient depth. Will this be the year of Lilian & Lokonda? If they’re on fire, the sweeper keeper formation can and will be lethal.
It’s the weekend! It might be the International break but there’s no rest for Philip as he looks to secure another title for Lierse…
Let’s get your weekend started with the final part of Season 3 with our not-so-unexpected-anymore champions Lierse. We won the title in our first 2 seasons and are in pole position to go for 3 in a row.
What’s missing so far on our record is the Cup. We have reached the semis last year, but that’s as far as we got. We are currently in quarter final, but with a trip to Sclessin the draw didn’t exactly give us the easy road. We start well and Lokonda opens the score after just 3 minutes. We are in control for most of the game, but everything turns upside down in 2 minutes when they first equalise and then take the lead. We can’t recover from this setback and also this season we will not win the Cup. Damn!
Welcome to the mid-season update in our 3rd season with Lierse. Despite being low on cash we did make a few good additions to the squad. We have to if we want to win the Champions League in our first 5 seasons. We had a superb win over Barcelona last week, but in all honesty we need to get stronger, otherwise we’ll never even survive the Group Stage. Domestically we are good and we are where the supporters expect us to be: on top!
We start off against Genk. Dirkx gives us an early lead, but truth is that Genk is the much better team. De Coninck (Bodart) saves our ass a couple of times, but he doesn’t stand when Strupar scores after a deflected shot. Why do these equalisers always come at the end of the game?
I hope you all enjoyed the finale of Nick’s CLM9798 blog yesterday. What a suspense, what a finish! I am the lucky one that came out on top.
I will do my best to keep you entertained and get your weekend started in a good way. Last week we finished Season 2 with Lierse. It was a less dominant season, but nonetheless we took our 2nd title in a row.
And what’s most important, we made the squad again a bit stronger to face competition in the Champions League. Of course I was silly enough to fall again for the “we need a bigger stadium” board. A familiar view, isn’t it?
Happy Saturday! There is no better way to start your weekend than catching up with Philip and his Belgian journey.
Am I glad it’s Saturday and weekend again! Are you guys ready for the final part of season 2 with our unexpected 96-97 champions Lierse? The lads definitely are! We are having a great season and getting the double is possible!
Our good mojo continues against Waregem. Once again our minus player Neca leads the way. When he plays like that, he makes the team better and is our indisputable number 8. If you are a regular to the blog, you know Valencia is still recovering from injury. Who will play when he is fit again? I’d call that luxury problems!
Let’s get your weekend started with the mid-season update of our second season with the Unexpected 96-97 Champions Lierse.
Last week we started great, but after that we suffered from a serious dip in our form. Trying to fit in a Russian winger seemed more difficult than I initially thought. Or is it because everybody still loves Raimond? That makes me the odd one out as I put him on the bench for the Bodart regen.
We resume the action in the CL. After 2 defeats against Juve and Milan, we are looking for our first points and money against the Grass Hoppers from Zurich. A win would have been ideal, but we have to settle for a point. We fail to score a 2nd goal and as it always goes they equalise at the end of the game.
