A Legend Returns – Part 12: Title Clash | @FMCM_FC

Good morning! Nathan’s Napoli are here to start your Tuesday and the title contenders are about to clash…

Hello, welcome back to Naples and season 3 of Diego Maradona’s return to try and recapture the Serie A title. In the last update we managed to go on a really good run in the league which saw us climb to the top of the table. We also reached the Champions League Quarter Finals where we will meet Real Madrid. Let’s get started on this update.

Great start here. This result means we do the double over current champions Inter. The first half we have to defend very well as Inter are all over us. In the second half we score with our very first chance in the second half when Imbriani plays through Bellucci who smashes it past Pagliuca. We have to wait until the 75th min for the same two to link up again for our 2nd which puts this one to bed.

A tough away win but we get the job done. The only goal comes in the first half when Bellucci breaks free and sets up Diego whose shot is blocked and Coridon runs on to it to smash it past the unlucky Warner. Warner is the reason this only stays at 1-0 and fully deserves his MOTM award.

What a game! and what a result! Fiorentina are 3rd just behind us and they take the league when Magiotta is played through and dinks it past Meier. We snatch an equaliser late in the first half when Bellucci breaks free and places his shot into the bottom corner. Marigotta nudges Fiorentina back in front with a sublime finish from the edge of the area. We get level again though when Beto’s cross is deep and D’Alessio is there to prod it home. We are heading for a draw when Serena overs hits a backpass which hits Toldo and bobbles into the net for a late late winner.

Another amazing game but this time we are on the wrong end of the result. Baggio is completely unplayable here. he opens the scoring with a curling effort just inside the box. Bellucci equalises with a header from a corner which Beto flicks on. Baggio again waltzs through and tucks it past Meier. Again though Bellucci equalises with a fine run and finish of his own. Reina then scores 2 quick goals to make it 4-2 before Maradona makes it 4-3 with a rebounded effort. We push for an equaliser but get caught out when Baggio breaks free and fires home his hattrick.

Straight back to winning ways but it comes courtesy of 2 own goals. the first comes from a Beto through ball which Livon chases back but ends up getting in his keepers way and the ball trickles into the net. Just 10 minutes later Bettoni goes to head a cross clear but gets his angles wrong and heads into his own net. I’ll take the win.

Big win as our front 2 step up and guide us to 3 points. It’s an early blitz for us as Maradona gives us the lead in the 4th minute after a great cross from Cavaco. Bellucci then robs the ball from kickoff and races forward unopposed to smash a powerful shot past Buffon. Henry then races clear and tees up Blomqvist who makes it 2-1. The second half is far less entertaining and we see out the win.

2nd against 1st here and the points are shared. Juventus have only conceded 9 goals in 23 games which is some going to say the least. So when Jorge handballs in the box and a penalty is given I’m naturally gutted. Del Piero sweeps home the penalty to make it 1-0. We rally though and a ball over the top from Beto sends Bellucci clear and coolly nutmegs Peruzzi for 1-1. Both teams have 1 big chance each but the score remains 1-1 at full time.

Another crazy game here but what a come back from us. The first 20 minutes is all Lazio as they batter us. Orlandini’s shot is blocked and Gelsi is there to thrash home the rebound. In the 18th minute Salas bursts through our defence and flicks it past Meier for 2-0. Bellucci then kicks into gear scoring 2 well taken goals in a 10 minute spell. Just before half time Diego gets in on the act and gives us a 3-2 lead. In the second half Casiraghi comes on and levels things up again. Coridon then steps up and smashes home our 4th before setting up Beto for our 5th which is game, set and match.

That’s it for this update – Let’s have a look at the league table before we go.

We have slipped to second but we are only 1 point behind leaders Juventus and 11 clear of Milan in 3rd so at the moment it’s a two horse race. Join me next time as we enter the Champions League Quarter Final against Real Madrid and continue the chase of Juventus.
