A Legend Returns – Part 15: A Dip In Form | @FMCM_FC

Good morning! Happy Nathan day…

Hello and welcome back to Naples. We started season 4 last time out and we had a tough start to the league campaign but picked up 6 points from our 2 Champions League games and progressed in the Coppa Italia. Hopefully we can push on in the league on this update.

First game is away at Genoa who have started well in 6th place and we are lucky to come away with a win here. Genoa control the game and have the better chances but for two 15 minute spells at the end of the first half and start of the second. Our goal comes in the 55th minute when Longo plays a teasing ball across the area and Bellucci is there to smash it home from 3 yards out. There was no need to smash it but each to their own I suppose. Genoa batter us but we hang firm for a great 3 points.

We actually play alright here but Barca are more clinical than us and that proves to be the difference. We actually take the lead only for the ref to rule it out. Only he knows why. Of course on the back of that Barca go right up the other end and score thanks to a neat finish by Fernando. He scores again just after half time and that knocks the wind right out of us and we limp to a defeat.

My God what a game! We go 1-0 after 15 minutes and I’m fearing a long afternoon but we go right up the other end and make it 1-1. Then we proceed to score 5 more before half time to make it 6-1!! Maradona adds to his first then Bellucci grabs a 10 minute hattrick before teeing up Longo for the 6th. In the second half Lazio get one back but Beto immediately grabs our 7th for a quite extraordinary result!

We cruise into the Coppa Italia Quarter Finals as we swat Brescia aside. Longo gives us the lead when Coridon’s effort rebounds off the bar for Longo to tap in. Longo then sets Bellucci free who lifts his shot over Pagotto to make it 2-0. Coridon then hits a 30 yard screamer of a freekick which Pagotto can only parry and Beto is on hand to sweep up the left overs. Beto then turns provider as he whips in a vicious corner which Jorge just has to glance goalwards to make it 4-0. Romano gets a very late consolation but it’s on to the next round to take on Inter. Of course it’s Inter again.

We are lacking a bit of support in the attacking midfield department so a future Italian legend joins the ranks.

A fantastic away result as we beat our rivals Inter. This is a really close game with teams having lots of chances but both goalkeepers are outstanding throughout. Bellucci grabs the lead when Maradona’s stining shot is blocked which wrong foots Pagliuca and allows Bellucci an easy tap. It’s a nervy game until the 91st minute when Diego breaks free and slots it under Pagliuca to send the away fans into a crazed celebration. Meier getting Man of the Match for a phenomenal performance.

Really poor game for us as Liverpool batter us. They will be wondering how they haven’t found a winner here. We have a couple of shots in either half but we have to be thankful coming away with a point.

A crazy game here against Parma sees us pick up a point. We race into a 2 goal lead thanks to two corners. The first is headed home by Jorge and the second hits Taccola in the face and flies into the net as an own goal. Parma instantly reply though after a big scramble in the box Henry prods home to half the deficit. Straight from kickoff in the second half Henry scores again to level things up before grabbing his hattrick 10 minutes later to complete a mighty turnaround and make it 3-2 Parma. They look to have us beat until the 87th minute when Longo breaks free and chips a beauty over De Sanctis to rescue a point.

This was one of our games in hand and it’s a disgusting result. Udinese batter us throughout and we just can’t live with them. Imbriani opens the scoring on his return to the first team with a belter from distance. Martinetti is then played through and slots his shot under Meier. We go in front again though when Beto’s first shot is blocked only for him to fire home the rebound. In the second half we don’t come out and Udinese look like scoring with every attack. Martinetti adds a second before late goals from Dionigi and Ametrano make it an embarrassing 4-2 loss.

It’s these types of results that cost us last season and they are going to cost us this season as well. We batter Lecce and create lots of chances. Pirlo has a great debut but it’s upfront again where we are struggling. Time for a change maybe.

We get another battering here from Monaco and that will probably mean we don’t qualify from our group. Blanc heads Monaco in front from a corner. Rieper then charges forward and fires a bullet of a shot past Meier. Smicer completes the scoring just a minute before being substituted.

You have to start to wonder where the bottom actually is. I can’t see it getting worse than this surely. Tatti gives Cesena the lead just after half time with a well taken goal. Bombardini secures the points when Meier punches the ball straight to him for an easy tap in.

That’s it for this update because I don’t have the heart to carry on at the moment. Let’s check out the league table.

Roma are still flying at the top of the league. We are 7th which reflects our woeful run currently. If we can win our game in hand we would be 4th so it’s not a massive disaster just yet.

Join me next time to see if we can break this poor run and start clawing our way up towards Roma.
