A Legend Returns – Part 17: Time Running Out | @FMCM_FC

Good morning! Here’s Nathan with the latest from Naples…

Hello everyone and welcome back to Naples where we will check in with Diego and the lads. In the last update we got knocked out of both the cup and Europe as well and our league form was so poor at one point that the board were considering my position as manager. Luckily we managed to scrape some results together to stick around for now. Let’s see if we can surge up the table with just the league to concentrate on.

A real game of two halves to start us off. Udinese batter us in the first half but thanks to some good goalkeeping from Meier and poor finishing from Udinese we go in at the break level. In the second half it’s our turn to dominate and we make it count when Diego slides a ball through for Nevland to fire into the roof of the net. 10 minutes later Imbriani wraps up the points as he blasts home Bellucci’s flick on.

This is a game we were never ever going to win. We just aren’t up there with the likes of Roma and Juve this season. The game is quiet until the 24th minute when Laslandes hits a stunner into the top corner from all of 40 yards! In the second half Torricelli gives us a helping hand by scoring an own goal. Laslandes leaves it 5 minutes before restoring the lead. The rest of the game passes without much to report to be honest.

What a performance from Bellucci here! He’s been a shadow of last season but he obliterates Vicenza here. He gives us a 2 goal lead inside 20 minutes before Slekys pulls one back. Meier then has one of his nightmeier’s and brings down Lucarelli in the box for a pen and a red card. Lucarelli converts the penalty. Bellucci completes his hattrick in the 31st minute thanks to an assist from Diego. In the second half Diego slips Bellucci in again for his 4th before he adds a 5th by floating past defenders and tapping home into the bottom corner. Slekys gets a 3rd for Viecenza but the damage is done.

Pathetic result this. It’s such a dull game and Cagliari are there for the taking but we are so underwhelming and dull. We switch off completely in the 74th minute when a flick on finds Quinonez who brings it down and fires past the stranded Meier. Really poor result.

After the last game we needed to show some fight and we did in this game. Genoa take the lead when Poggi plays a lovely cross into the box and Rossini meets it and glances it past Broto. Our front 2 then swap assists and goals with one another as we take a 2-1 lead before half time. In the second half Materazzi rises highest at a corner to head us 3-1 in front. Loko grabs a goal to make it 3-2 but we dig in and hold on for the win.

Shocking effort here. The first half Lazio score with there first attack with Salas hitting the post and Jugovic taps in the rebound. It’s a close game until half time. I’ve not even taken my seat for the second half when Vergassola, Salvagno and Salas score 3 goals in 2 minutes to crush us into submission.

We put up a brave effort but Inter have too much for us. Winter gives Inter the lead after some good movement in midfield. Bellucci equalises but just before half time Del Piero breaks free and scores to make it 2-1. Straight from kickoff Ronaldo uses his pace to break the line and meg Broto for 3-1. Nevland gives us hope with a fine effort to make it 3-2. Unfortunately we can’t find an equaliser.

A good game for the neutrals and a draw is fair result although it doesn’t help us a lot. We give away a soft freekick which Blomqvist floats into the box and Apolloni heads it into the net. The second half starts with a bang from Imbriani from 25 yards out as De Sanctis just watches it fly past him. Imbriani then gives us the lead but with just 4 minutes remaining Asprilla pops up to make sure Parma get a share of the points.

That’s it for this update. Here is the table.

We are still 5th but rather than catching up to the top 4 we are slipping into a fight with the teams below us. Join me next time as we try to finish in the top 4.
