Bottoms Up – Part 10: Cup Carnage | @FMCM_FC

Good day, welcome to Tuesday. Here’s Nathan with the latest from the Upside Down leagues…

Hi everyone and welcome back to this bonkers upside down world. In the last update we got our 2nd promotion in two seasons which means we are in Division 1 and also won the League Challenge Cup and the FA Cup meaning we can have a go in the Cup Winners Cup this year. The aim this season is of course to get back into the Scottish Premier League at the first time of asking. So without further ado let’s press on in Division 1.

It takes less than a minute for us to open our account in Division 1 as Laudrup is played through and he megs the keeper. New signing Bakayoko, who only cost £675k due to being out of contract, takes just 10 minutes to open his account. He seals the game with a lovely lob from just outside the area Cantonaesqe style to really get the fans on his side. Solid start.

Another convincing win here. Cavaco gives us the leads as he nods home Negri’s deflected shot. Just before half time Bakayoko hits a screamer from 30 yards. In the second half Ferguson slams home a third before Iain Stewart grabs a consolation for Inverness.

Safely through to the 3rd round of the Coca Cola League Cup. Van Vossen gives us the lead with a well placed shot from just inside the area. Fitzy grabs the second late on after a scuffle in the box.

We hand out a mauling to Morton. Fitzy scores 2 in 2 minutes, both assisted by Van Vossen. Johansson then goes on a mad one. His first comes from a good run through the middle and a thumping shot into the back of the net. His other 2 goals come from rebounds. Harriott scores a penalty in between Fitzy’s 2nd and Jonny’s 1st.

3 out of 3 in the league. Laudrup gets us up and running with a lovely curling effort giving the keeper no chance. He then breaks free and lays the ball off for Negri for an easy tap in. Bakayoko seals the win with a powerful header from a Gazza corner.

Our prize for winning in the League Cup is a game against arch rivals Celtic. We completely blow them away. Negri grabs the opener thanks to a through ball from Gazza. Gazza then mops up a blocked shot to make it 2-0. Baz Ferguson slams home a third to really get the party started at Ibrox.

4 wins and 4 goals in this one. Bakayoko opens the scoring by riding two tackles before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Gazza then breaks down the wing and plays a low ball to Bakayoko to slam home his 2nd. Bakayoko gets free again and this time plays in Negri who megs the keeper. Albertz pops up late with a rare goal to cap off a good performance.

It’s a close game until the half hour mark when Haslam goes off injured. We make it 3-0 by half time thanks to Baz, Negri & Bakayoko. Jon Harley gets one back early in the second half but any comeback is snuffed out when Van Vossen grabs a goal before assisting Negri for our 5th.

We drop our first points of the season away at Montrose and it’s thanks to a master class from Paul Gibson in the Montrose goal. Vinni slips which allows Ferris a free run at goal and he slots home with ease. Bakayoko picks up a knock and it’s his replacement, Van Vossen, who gets us level with a sweeping right foot half volley. We throw everything at Gibson in the second half but he gets to everything and fully deserves his Man of the Match award.

Another cup that we knock Old Firm Rivals Celtic out of. Gazza goes off injured and his replacement puts in a Man of the Match performance. Van Vossen flicks a ball over the top for Bakayoko to race onto and slam past Kerr. Van Vossen then flicks on a free kick which Bakayoko heads into the net for 2-0. Negri completes the win with a well timed run to finish off a great passing move.

Back to winning ways in the league but we are having an injury crisis in the attacking midfield positions. Gazza is out for 7 months with a broken leg. Cavaco is out for 4 months with strained knee ligaments and now Baz has got injured. Before he went off though he managed two first half goals to give us the lead. Rob Mann then scores a comedy own goal to make it 3-0 with Negri grabbing his goal in the 80th minute. Still enough time for a sloppy pass to be punished and deny us a clean sheet.

It’s a good start to our Cup Winners Cup campaign. Johansson gives us the lead before setting up Negri to make it 2-0. Kadlec gets one back instantly but then we win 2 penalties in 3 minutes which Negri converts both times to really end this one. Van Vossen grabs a late 5th to make it a comfortable score line.

We aren’t at the races for this one at all and Stenhousemuir very nearly spring a surprise win. We batter them in the first half but can’t grab a goal. They shock us with a simple long ball flicked on and Knott is there to bundle the ball home at the back post. I put 4 upfront but not until Stenhousemuir go down to 10 men do they concede when Negri nips through and squeezes the ball in at the near post.

That’s it for this update. Let’s check out the league tables.

Our 2 draws mean it’s advantage Celtic early doors. We’ve yet to play each other in the league though.

Livingston are the early pace setters in the Premier League with holders Clydebank giving chase.

Bristol Rovers going an impressive 10 for 10 is keeping the the newly promoted big boys at bay.

Middlesbrough flying in the Prem. Holders Preston have had a slow start.

Early days in Italy but those top 4 will be desperate to get back into Serie A.

Surprise early leaders in Serie A. It will be interesting to see if that lasts.

In Europe Clydebank lost on penalties against PSV so don’t make it to the group stages.

Preston with a difficult start against Ajax.

Hull off to a dream start though!

Oldham and Hartlepool have picked up wins in the UEFA Cup as well.

That’s it for this update. Join me next time as we continue the conquest to get back into the Prem with Rangers and we will keep an eye on the other leagues as well. Until then Bottoms Up!!
