The Last Roman – Part 1: Slow Start | @FMCM_FC

Here to kick off your sneaky Tuesday is Nathan. Back in his familiar Tuesday home he has a new save to bring us. Over to you Nath…

Hello and welcome to a brand new blog which has been inspired by a documentary I watched the other week about the legend that is Francesco Totti. In the program it showed just how loyal he was to his boyhood club Roma even through tough times right at the end of his playing career. The idea for the blog is simple. Take over Roma & Italy and install Totti as captain of both and win as much silverware as possible.

I’m not a massive fan of this Roma team so some reinforcements are needed straightaway.

4 new faces for now but I’m sure more will follow. The squad is at full capacity and I’ve listed a lot of players so they will have to leave before more come in. I’ve also taken over Italy but will only update qualifiers until we qualify and the actual tournaments. No friendlies.

The main man gets us off to a good start. An assist from new boy Hughes and Gautieri lead to easy tap ins for Totti and we ease through to the 3rd round of the Coppa Italia.

A fantastic game for the neutrals and a draw is the right result if a little frustrating. 2 goals in 2 minutes inside the first 10 minutes stun us but we quickly regain our composure with Gautieri getting us back into it and Totti levelling things up before half time. Both teams could have won in the 2nd half but have to settle for a point.

We get beat by two stunning efforts. Djorkaeff smashes in a thunderbolt from all of 30 yards. Zamorano then curls in a beauty from 25 yards. Totti grabs a consolation goal late on from a Del Vecchio blocked shot.

No dramas in Georgia. Albertini opens the scoring and Del Piero seals the win with 2 second half goals.

Totti again is central to our performance. He opens the scoring after just 2 minutes which silences the home fans. Totti then sends young Conti through to score his first goal for the club. Atalanta get one back but Gautieri picks up Totti’s pass and smashes a low shot home to seal the win.

Terrible result at home against Empoli. We batter them in the first half but can’t find a way through. Naturally it’s Empoli who take the lead thanks to Esposito. Balbo comes off the bench to equalise but in the last minute after 4 shots and block and deflections Garivia slots home the winner.

Wow what a game! Inzaghi opens the scoring after 4 minutes. Rutzittu then grabs his first goal for the club but Zidane scores from the kick off and Del Piero makes it 3-1. Just before half time Servidei grabs a lifeline for us. Balbo scores in the 72nd minute to rescue a point for us.

A much needed win against early pace setters Sampdoria. Balbo opens the scoring then Conti follows in Totti’s shot which pings off the post to make it 2-0. A Totti corner is flicked into the far post by Gomez to add some gloss to the win.

Such an annoying result here. New boy John Curtis has a solid debut and of course Totti gets our goal thanks to a flick on by Balbo. I think we’ve done enough until a blocked shot causes confusion and Brambilla slams home a late equaliser for Bologna.

In the next game with Italy we get the 1 point at home against England to secure a World Cup spot. I’d post a picture but it was the most boring game i’ve ever seen on CM 9798.

Absolutely battered here. No Excuses.

That’s it for this update. Let’s check out the League Table.

2 wins out of 8 is no where near good enough and improvements are needed quickly.

This man needs some help and quickly.

Join me next time as we have Coppa Italia action to look forward to and try to get some much needed wins on the board.
