The Last Roman – Part 10: The Best On The Continent | @FMCM_FC

Hello and welcome to Tuesday! Here’s Nath with another positive looking Roma update…

Hello and welcome back to your Tuesday Italian treat as we continue with the conquest of winning it all with Totti. We had heartbreak again as Totti lost another cup final, this time the Cup Winners Cup Final. We did have a much better league league campaign though finishing 3rd. Before we move on to Season 3 we have some end of season 2 news. Firstly Totti grabbed 2 more for Italy with wins over Yugoslavia and Israel in the Euro Qualifiers. Then it was awards time.

Totti gets the coveted European Player award for another outstanding season!!

The press love him as well!

We start season 3 with a classic in the Coppa Italia. Vicenza beat us in the final in our first season so this feels good. Mahlas scores after 7 minutes but Vicenza score straight from the kickoff. Totti then puts us in front only for Amoruso to quickly make it 2-2. Roll scores the winner in stoppage time of the first half. We are hanging on at the end but see out the win.

Ridiculous start to our league campaign. Steven Fry is not the TV Legend. It’s actually Liverpool and Wales legend Ian Rush reincarnated, and he has a sensational debut. He adds two assists to his goal. Totti bags two as well. Unfortunately despite being 4-2 up we give away a penalty which makes it 4-3 and Fiorentina grab a late equaliser to stun us.

Another routine win in Italy’s Euro Qualifiers. Mind you we had wait until the 71st to open the scoring!

Another draw from a winning position. Favalli gets his first goal for the club with a tap in at the back post. Totti doubles our lead from the spot after the Udinese keeper is sent off. The 10 men batter us though and 2 late goals earn a well deserved draw. Frustrating!

We make our entrance in the UEFA Cup with a trip to Finland. We are missing both Totti and Mahlas and it shows with our lack of finishing upfront. Luckily Conti brought his shooting boots and gives us a nice lead for the return leg.

3 league games and 3 draws. Not good enough against teams we should be beating with no issues. Rana scores after 2 minutes but 10 minutes later Torino are level. It’s end to end but even with an extra man (Again!!) we can’t turn it into a win.

Finally a win in the league. Roll scores early and has a goal disallowed but Rana grabs the 2nd before half time. We control the game throughout to see out the win.

Back to back wins is exactly what we need. Totti grabs two after his quiet period in front of goal. Falcioni is none other than Roberto Mancini Jr. That’s his first for the club.

We ease into the UEFA Cup 3rd round. 2 from Fry (Rush Jr) and a debut goal for Pistone give us a 3-0 lead. Karvinen grabs one for the visitors but Totti snuffs out any disillusioned ideas of a comeback. Santamaki grabs a late 2nd but the tie is all over.

This was one of those games where the opposing keeper has a worldie. Zenga was brilliant! Breda gave Perugia the lead but Totti was having none of that and immediately equalised. Zenga was infuriated by this and just didn’t let anything near the goal for the rest of the game.

We’ve already qualified for the Euros. Inzaghi scoring 5 is brilliant! Totti was suspended so he didn’t feature.

Not a great first half as we go in at the break 1-0 down. 2 goals in 3 minutes turn the game on it’s head. Rana with the first and Gazza with a thumping header for the 2nd. Gazza grabs a 3rd with one of his magical runs from midfield. Mahlas adds a late 4th to seal the win.

Absolutely crap. We don’t look like scoring at all. Imbriani opens the scoring for Bologna and Fiore makes an interception in our half and finishes it neatly for 2-0. Really poor from us here.

That’s it for this update. Let’s see how the land lies in the early stages of Season 3.

We sit 5th which is a surprise as i don’t think we’ve played brilliantly. 4 draws in 8 games really isn’t good enough to be honest. We are through to the 3rd round in the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia so lots to look forward to. I’ll leave you with Europe’s top players stats for the start of season 3.
