The Last Roman – Part 30: Surprise Challengers | @FMCM_FC

Hello and welcome back to Rome. In our last update we defended the World Cup with Italy with Totti leading the way once again. We are back in Italy and have our sights set on getting the Serie A title back from Juventus.

We breeze in to the Champions League Group Stages. Once again Barcelona stand in our way. Wimbledon in our group as well along with OFK Belgrade. In transfer news we sign 4 regens – Grant Edworthy (Alan Shearer Jr), Garcia Raul (Pep Guardiola Jr), Jose Antonio Saenz Palomino (Luis Enrique Jr), Roman Dyomin (Viktor Onopko Jr). Luis Enrique Jr goes on loan for the season to Las Palmas.

Well September is a bit of a car crash. It starts well in the Coppa Italia with an easy win over Como. Wimbledon then spank us 4-1 which is shocking. We are unbeaten in the league with 3 poor draws and a scrappy win.

The Udinese goalkeeper gets Man of the Match and thoroughly deserves it. Bild scores early but we can’t get anything else past him.

Another mess of a month in October. Barcelona beat us with ease. We lose against Fiorentina and rivals Lazio which is really disappointing.

One of the only high points of the month. Totti was back after a month out injured and got on the scoresheet. Second half goals for Schroder, Roll & Henry seal an easy win.

November is much better for us. We beat Chievo to progress to the Coppa Italia QF. We then get some revenge over Wimbledon then beat Juventus and AC Milan back to back!

This win over Milan was sublime. The front two had a field day and could have scored more.

3 wins out 3 in the league but we crash out of Europe and the Coppa Italia. All eggs in one basket now.

A nice big win against Perugia. Curtis was a rock at the back and Henry lead the assault upfront.

2 wins and 2 losses this month. We beat Sampdoria and Empoli after going a goal down in both games. We lose against Milan and run away leaders Torino. Losing to Torino was annoying as we had been slowly reeling them in.

Every time we look like getting some decent form going we throw in a terrible performance like we do here against Fiorentina. We are 11 points behind Torino in 1st and 10 points behind Inter in 2nd.

A win against rivals Lazio papers over a truly terrible result against 17th placed Palermo.

This was an easy win in the Derby. Roll and Henry put us 2-0 up at half time with sub Pavone adding a 3rd late on.

We go unbeaten in April but it’s too little too late. Draws won’t do as Torino are still 10 points ahead.

A fantastic win against Inter. Roll grabs 2 early to set the tone. Henry and Totti assist each other for their goals.

I’ve no idea what happened against Perugia. We were 1-0 up and cruising until the 59th minute when Perugia turn into a prime Barcelona and pulverise us! They stick 5 past us before we even realise what has happened. They then beat Real Madrid to win the Cup Winners Cup.

Here is the final league table. Torino have ripped the league apart this season fair play to them. It’s a comfortable 2nd for us. Our terrible start to the season had us playing catch up all season. We seemed to do well against the “better” teams but struggled in games we should have won.

Join me next time for another go at the Champions League and another assault on Serie A.
