Hello. Welcome to a challenge that I have attempted once before and failed. The aim is simple. Get to the end of season 29 and get the screen that says you have completed 30 seasons in the game. The last time i tired this i made it to season 9 before my laptop died so hopefully that won’t happen this time. I’m going 1 post per season so without further ado let’s dive into season 1.
Now to pick my starting team I picked a team at random (Macclesfield) then instantly retired the fake manager. Then it was time to look at teams with no managers, obviously i ruled out Macclesfield. There was 8 teams to choose from and I got the Mrs to choose. She chose Greenock Morton for me in the Scottish 1st Division. There is no real aim other than get to the end of the game. Let’s see what adventure we go on to get there.
August

Here is the Morton team. The only two players I like are the 2 forwards i have selected above. So it will be straight into the transfer market for a host of new players.

4 games in August and only 1 win with a loss and 2 draws. Our win came against St Mirren on the opening day. Let’s have a look at the players brought in.

There is no money at all so all free transfers. Not the best but happy with Duncan coming on board. We need more players but we need to offload a lot first.

4 wins out of 4 in September which is fantastic. The team is really starting to gel.

The highlight being this huge win over Ayr United. Marc Powers was unstoppable! all 4 goals come in the second half. The cost of the game though was losing Duncan for 15 months with a broken leg!

We go another 4 games unbeaten in October which sees us rise to top spot in the league. We are flying and the goals are flying in as well.

This win away at 2nd place Falkirk was a great result. The front 4 of Blair/Powers/Hawke/McGraw are the only 4 remaining from the original squad that i kept for the starting XI and they’ve all been brilliant. Blair has earned a call up to the Scotland U21 team.

Just the one loss in November against Partick Thistle. We are still top of the table but we need to sell players so all non first team players are up for sale.

The highlight of the month was this brilliant away performance against Airdrie. McGraw was brilliant in midfield but Slavin got MOM with a rock solid showing at the heart of our defence.

Unbeaten in December with 2 wins and 2 draws. Still top of the table. We lost our left back due to the big club release clause. Bolton offered £550k which i rejected and the tribunal set the fee at £1.2 million which is brilliant for a free transfer. We reinvest £200k on Andy Dow from Hibs as our replacement.

Game of the month was a win at Raith Rovers. We raced into a 3 goal lead only to be pegged back to 3-2 all in the first half. Both teams had golden opportunities at the end to add to the drama but we clung on for 3 points.

Another unbeaten month wins me a 3rd Manager of the Month award.

We enter the Scottish FA Cup at the 3rd round stage and a kind draw sees us breeze past Division 2 Livingston. Powers grabs a hattrick with 2 coming from the penalty spot.

Another good month in Feb with only one loss against Falkirk. We had our top 3 centre backs missing so no surprise there.

This win over Stirling was a battle. We sail into a 3-0 lead only for Stirling to battle back to 3-3 with 4 minutes to go. Luckily Greg Berry steps up with 2 in 2 minutes to win the game for us.

End of March and the Title is wrapped up!! it’s been a fantastic season for us. I won’t bother with the final results so here is a look at some stats and awards.

Delighted with this one!

So that is Season 1 in the bag with a League Title which is way more than i hoped for. Premier League football next season to look forward to. Keeping players will be difficult and we need to add some more quality and depth so join me next time for Season 2.
