Bottom’s Up – Part 11: Cup after Cup | @FMCM_FC

Here with your usual upside down Tuesday it’s Nathan. Rangers are making progress…ans quickly

Hello all and welcome back to the upside down world we have created. In the last update we made a steady start to life in Division 1 after 2 successive title wins. So let’s crack on and get top spot secured.

A cup Quarter Final win opens up this update. It’s a mix of first teamers and bench players but the result is never in doubt. 2 early goals from Van Vossen and Johansson put us in control. In the second half we are in 2nd gear and allow Gardiner room to break through and slot past Wright. That makes us up our game with Johansson slipping the ball through for Fitzy who strokes home our third and sees us into the Semi Finals.

Marco Negri is phenomenal! 2 quickfire goals are followed by an assist for an own goal. Laudrup then hits a Thunderbastard from 30 yards before Negri hits his hattrick. Fenton grabs a late goal for East Fife but the game was over long before it goes in.

A dire game of football in another cup QF this time in the League Challenge Cup. The tie is settled by the only bit of quality when Van Vossen is played in over the top and he lashes his shot home first time.

Another Cup game, this time in Europe, and we progress despite the loss. I send out the 2nd string again and they don’t really get in to the game. We are 2-0 before the 3 sendings off. Obviously the lads enjoyed Prague a bit too much and couldn’t be bothered with the game.

We finally have a league game and it’s another laboured performance from us. New signing Robbiati plays well. Bakayoko seals the win when he pounces on a slip at the back and slides his shot into the bottom corner.

A 3 day rest and we play Stranraer again in the League Challenge Cup Semi Final. Van Vossen opens the scoring by running across the box to tap home a low cross at the near post. Fitzy wraps it up with a lovely curling effort from 25 yards. We will be back at Hampden to defend our trophy.

Frustrating game this one as we waste so many chances and Kerr has the game of his life in the Celtic goal. I make the stupid error of forgetting to swap Niemi for Wright and it’s Niemi who drops an easy ball to gift Provitali an easy opener. It takes us until the 75th minute to find a way past Kerr and he is unlucky as a deflected shot falls kindly for Negri to slam home our equaliser. Celtic remain 2 points if front of us in the league.

We are made to work hard for this one. Negri links up with Bakayoko sliding it through for him to hammer home from close range. Clyde then put together a great passing move which is finished off by Tom King. On the stroke of half time Clyde take the lead when McGregor breaks free and megs Niemi. Straight from kickoff the front two link up again this time it’s Bakayoko assisting Negri. Charlie Miller then sends a ball over the top which breaks the Clyde backline and sends Bakayoko through on goal where he curls his shot into the bottom corner.

The squad is decimated by injuries and suspensions for this game meaning i have to call grey players onto the bench. The game is of poor quality and is decided when the Linesman decides Wright did take out Jansson in the box and gives a penalty which Jansson scores. Big night at Ibrox required.

Complete bore draw. Nothing else to say.

We are into another cup final this time the Coca Cola Cup final. We are lacking a cutting edge at the moment but it’s the front two again combining to see us through with Bakayoko sending Negri clear who only needs a sniff at goal to win the game for us.

Charlie Miller comes of age in this one. He is sensational as is Bakayoko who grabs 3 assists. Robbiati finds Miller unmarked in the box and Miller opens the scoring after 3 minutes. Alloa pile on the pressure though and just before half time grab an equaliser. In the second half Bakayoko hits 2 blistering shots which the keeper can only parry and Negri and Miller have easy tap ins. Bakayoko finds Negri again for a 4th before Miller grabs a hattrick with a lung bursting run and finish from an Alloa corner.

First silverware of the season as we retain the League Challenge Cup. 3 goals in the opening 20 minutes from Van Vossen, Fitzy and Johansson pretty end the game there. Clyde get one back in the second half but Van Vossen immediately grabs that goal back to make it a nice 4-1 win.

What a night at Ibrox! We need to win by 2 clear goals and we do it in dramatic fashion. We batter Helsingborg all game and finally get a goal in the second half when Miller flicks a ball through for Negri who’s shot is blocked but Johansson is there to tap home the rebound. It’s looking like extra time until the 90th minute when Bakayoko breaks free, gives the keeper the eyes, rounds him and taps home a winner. Ibrox erupts as we go into the next round!

That’s it for this update which has been dominated by cup games. Let’s check out how the rest of the leagues look.

In our league Celtic still hold a 2 point lead over us.

In the Scottish Prem Clydebank are making a good fist of defending their title.

In the English First Division Man Utd, Newcastle and Liverpool are all in the hunt but surprise leaders Bristol Rovers are trumping them all so far.

As expected in the Premier League Middlesbrough are charging ahead. Preston are 14th in their title defending season.

In Serie B the surprise is Roma who are still struggling to get back to Serie A.

Surprise leaders in Serie A but Inter look ominous with 2 games in hand.

In the Champions League Preston are making a real go for one of the best runners up.

Hull meanwhile could actually win their group!

In the UEFA Cup Hartlepool got knocked out by Cagliari but Oldham are in the 4th round after beating Zagreb and Ferencavaros.

That’s the round up. Join me next time to see if we can get past Celtic in the league and win another trophy. Until then Bottom’s Up!
