The Last Roman – Part 15: Giving Others A Chance | @FMCM_FC

Welcome to Tuesday where Nath is still basking in the glory of Roma landing a European trophy. The awards speak for themselves…

Hello. Welcome to the Tuesday club which happens to be in Roma at the moment. We are about to embark on Season 4 with Mr Totti and Co. We finally won some silverware last season in the form the UEFA Cup! Totti scoring the winner of course. Now we need to win domestically which is ridiculously difficult given Juventus and both Milan teams are super clubs! But we have to try. So let’s crack open season 4.

Totti with more individual glory. He adds his second European player of the year award and also the Football Writers’ player of the year. What. A. Player!

Only 3 players come in over the summer. Djorkaeff is a proven winner and for free is a steal! Lazio got relegated last season and nabbing Salas on a free was just too good to turn down. Arne Schroder is Lothar Matthaus Jr.

Not the most amazing start to the season. A dull 0-0 away in the Coppa Italia.

Oh here we go. Another season of draws against teams we should be beating. This league is a joke! Opening goal for Salas though.

Who doesn’t love a stoppage time winner! Totti opens the scoring with a clever finish. Filippini then equalises on the hour mark. We pile on the pressure and get rewarded in the 91st minute when Roll fires home a rebounded shot.

Our UEFA Cup defence gets off to the worst start. A 1-0 loss away at Sunderland is not brilliant. No Totti in the team due to suspension.

This one had draw written all over it until the 70th minute when Salas curls in a beauty. Last season we would have drawn or even lost this one.

Blimey we make hard work of it. Palermo have a man sent off then take the lead. Salas drags us back into it but in the 70th minute Palermo fade and Salas & Totti finish them off. AC Milan await in round 3.

And there’s me thinking we had turned a corner!! Utter crap!

So that’s the UEFA Cup defence over at the fist hurdle. We batter Sunderland but a combination of Dida being unbelievable and having 3 goals disallowed. 3 goals!

Back to winning ways in the league. Salas opens the scoring then Mahlas grabs a late second after coming on for Totti.

This is a great result as Fiorentina are 2nd. Gautieri opens the scoring before laying up for Totti to slot home. Salas smashes in a volley from close range. Batistuta grabs a late consolation.

Close game against AC Milan. Salas gives us a deserved lead. I thought we would hang on but in the 78th minute Daino levels the scores.

It’s a great result but Sampdoria are bottom and are crap. Totti is back from injury and smashes in a 24 minute hattrick. Salas gets in on the act just before halftime and Nicola makes it 4-1. Roll and Gautieri make it 6-1 and sub Parisi grabs a late 2nd for Sampdoria.

That’s it for this update. Let’s check out the League Table

Top 4 again with the usual 3 in front of us. Losing in the UEFA Cup was really annoying but we can focus on domestic success. Join me next time as push on for a league title push. Before we go here is Totti.
