Hello and welcome back to another Monday Night Football after our brief week off for the International weekend. As ever we’ll take (what would have been) some of the weekends Premier League games and give them a CM9798 makeover. For this weekends could have beens, we’ll be going back in time for Saturday’s fixtures to 1997:
The Wonderkids are back on the trail seeing whether minus potential stats are enough to drag a team kicking and screaming into the elite competitions of CM9798. There have been a few small additions to the squad on the way as we look to see if they can kick-on in Division One. Catch up with last week here.
Last time out we signed up Rowdy Rody Turpijn to add to our contingent of Dutch minus men. We continue to make steady progress, but the playing field is much more level than the last season with last season’s FA Cup finalists Huddersfield amongst the chasing pack. The second-string strikers are not firing at all and we are more reliant on a close group of key players.
Hello and welcome back! We’re about to continue with our journey in Division One having climbed out from the depths of Division Three along with two multi-million-pound injections of cash from the board to write down the debts being wracked up by the B Team. Some of the players (Drummond) have been lacklustre at this level where as others (Bing) have continued to be sensational. Thanks to Coventry, we’re aware that should we achieve our dream the step-up will be huge. You can catch up with the start of season three here.
We left off last time having made a solid start to life in the second tier:
Hello and welcome to a Monday Night Football ‘Special Edition’. I’m sure after one week without football many of you are wondering what people’s brains even think about day to day. Well, with next weekend’s games called off we’ve allowed CM9798 to run the Premier League and FA Cup games that were due to be played and see how it pans out. No, you’re betting company of choice won’t accept these results.
Premier League
So we would have been looking forward to Nigel Pearson taking Watford to Burnley to go some way to pulling off his second great escape as a Premier League manager, Norwich keeping on pushing for the impossible at an Everton side with almost nothing to play for, and the champions elect looking to take one more step to a final title after 30 years.
We’re back again for the next instalment of the Wonderkids we’ve taken a group of misfits from all over the globe with unlimited potential from Division Three to Division One, but can they go any further? We don’t know how many of the 655 have loaded into this save, but we need to top up our shortlist, so we’ll keep uncovering them. You can catch up right from the start here.
Last time out we’d just won promotion to Division One and finally made our peace with the Football League Trophy. During the close season, we’ve moved Ballack to the B Team and made one smart addition to the front line:
Hello and welcome to this weeks Monday Night Football where you’ve kindly selected a pair of unwitting Premier League giants to be given the CM9798 makeover. In line with last week you went for something a bit interesting for the back in time treatment:
Last week’s pick of Liverpool vs. Bournemouth came out as expected, a win for Liverpool as they got back on track in the league. Unfortunately for Bournemouth, John O’Neill has long since retired.
Arsenal remain unbeaten in the league since the 29th of December, meanwhile Graham Potter’s Brighton haven’t won for the same length of time in the league and find themselves stuck with Peter Capaldi and Chris Addison.
The Line-ups:
CM based injuries prevent a true representation and for both sides impact attacking options. Both are expected to play similar formations, but it will all come down to quality.
Kick-off:
The first half is a falmer’s market, full of bizarre surprises as Brighton really press Arsenal and have them on the back foot for a good period. However, their attacked might as well get in the sea. Martinelli breaks against the run of play, feeds Casette Boy who slips a cool finish beyond a marooned Ryan.
Awful performances from the front 4.
Martinelli, the man off the telly putting in a solid shift.
Second half:
The second half takes a while to liven up and a 12-minute spell near the death holds all the action. Glenn Murray sets his team mate up for a propper finish, rifling into the roof of the net. David Luiz heads beyond Leno to give Brighton a short-lived lead before Aubameyang feeds Casette boy to head in goal number two.
It’s a solid burn from Brighton.
Lacazette’s finishing keeps Arsenal in the points.
As ever this season, Arsenal are the draw specialists. However, I can’t see Brighton ending their woeful spell without a victory against Arsenal, even if they are at home. We will see.
Back in time:
Back in 1997/98 Brighton were at the opposite end of the pyramid and only retained their league status thanks to a woeful and well documented season from Doncaster. It was such a woeful season, there is no Wikipedia record for 1997-98 for Brighton. Meanwhile as we all know, Arsene’s Arsenal did the double, not before conceding 2 goals against non-league Sittingbourne in pre-season mind.
Line-ups:
The result:
Similarly, to last week, the Premier League side blitz into a 10-minute lead and cruise to half-time. Arsenal then give up in the second half and are lucky not to throw the game as Brighton lay siege to their goal. Reinelt hits the bar and the ref blows the whistle, Wenger looks relieved!
And with that it’s another wrap on Monday Night Football for this week. I hope you have enjoyed our journey through the looking glass. Keep an eye out for our next poll. See you next time!
Here we are again for the next part of ‘The Wonderkids’ as we look to take a crop of the 655 on a journey from 0 to hero. How far can their unlimited potential take them? You can catch up on last week here.
Last time out we had just given ourselves breathing space in the battle at the top of Division Two but had the crushing news that Remco van der Schaaf was ruled out for 9 months, somehow, smashing his pelvis in training. Also, Tottenham dumped us out the FA Cup after a replay. Here’s a reminder of the table:
Hello again and welcome back to another episode of Monday Night Football with CM9798 where we continue to give a game from the weeks current Premier League season a brutal make-over. As ever, you made your choice:
Welcome back to the latest part of our mission to discover just how good a bunch of players with unlimited potential can become. So far, we made a late surge in our first season to secure the Division Three title making two additions to the squad on the way with our overall weakness appearing to be paper gloved goalkeepers. We have started life in Division Two quite successfully, but the goals and assists have become much more tightly dispersed and some players struggle with the step up. You can catch-up on our latest season from the beginning here.
Here is a customary reminder of where we left off last time out with some fellas from an Abbey chasing our behinds:
Welcome to the latest hatchet job…I mean Monday Night Football with CM9798. As ever, you cast your votes as to who you’d like to see given the makeover, here was the result:
