The Wonderkids – Part 12: Letting It Slip

Hello and welcome back to The Wonderkids where we continue to attempt to take a rag-tag bunch of players with unlimited potential from Division Three all the way to the top. Most of them may never have a hope in hell of becoming the next Nii Lamptey, John Curtis or David Beckham (yes he’s got unlimited potential whilst Michael Owen…does not) but we’ll see if we can drag the last ounce of potential out of them. You can catch-up with last week here.

Last time out the backbone of Dean ‘Bing’ Chandler had helped carry us to within sniffing distance of the promised land with 13 games to go. Our strikers not quite on fire as before but the goals continue and we’re defensively ‘okay’. Here’s a reminder of the table;

The Wonderkids – Part 11: Deja Vu

The Wonderkids are back on the trail seeing whether minus potential stats are enough to drag a team kicking and screaming into the elite competitions of CM9798. There have been a few small additions to the squad on the way as we look to see if they can kick-on in Division One. Catch up with last week here.

Last time out we signed up Rowdy Rody Turpijn to add to our contingent of Dutch minus men. We continue to make steady progress, but the playing field is much more level than the last season with last season’s FA Cup finalists Huddersfield amongst the chasing pack. The second-string strikers are not firing at all and we are more reliant on a close group of key players.

The Wonderkids – Part 10: Getting Champ Man’d

Hello and welcome back! We’re about to continue with our journey in Division One having climbed out from the depths of Division Three along with two multi-million-pound injections of cash from the board to write down the debts being wracked up by the B Team. Some of the players (Drummond) have been lacklustre at this level where as others (Bing) have continued to be sensational. Thanks to Coventry, we’re aware that should we achieve our dream the step-up will be huge. You can catch up with the start of season three here.

We left off last time having made a solid start to life in the second tier:

The Wonderkids – Part 9: Record Breakers

We’re back again for the next instalment of the Wonderkids we’ve taken a group of misfits from all over the globe with unlimited potential from Division Three to Division One, but can they go any further? We don’t know how many of the 655 have loaded into this save, but we need to top up our shortlist, so we’ll keep uncovering them. You can catch up right from the start here.

Last time out we’d just won promotion to Division One and finally made our peace with the Football League Trophy. During the close season, we’ve moved Ballack to the B Team and made one smart addition to the front line:

The Wonderkids – Part 8: Rose Gold

Here we are again for the next part of ‘The Wonderkids’ as we look to take a crop of the 655 on a journey from 0 to hero. How far can their unlimited potential take them? You can catch up on last week here.

Last time out we had just given ourselves breathing space in the battle at the top of Division Two but had the crushing news that Remco van der Schaaf was ruled out for 9 months, somehow, smashing his pelvis in training. Also, Tottenham dumped us out the FA Cup after a replay. Here’s a reminder of the table:

The Wonderkids – Part 7: Schaafted

Welcome back to the latest part of our mission to discover just how good a bunch of players with unlimited potential can become. So far, we made a late surge in our first season to secure the Division Three title making two additions to the squad on the way with our overall weakness appearing to be paper gloved goalkeepers. We have started life in Division Two quite successfully, but the goals and assists have become much more tightly dispersed and some players struggle with the step up. You can catch-up on our latest season from the beginning here.

Here is a customary reminder of where we left off last time out with some fellas from an Abbey chasing our behinds:

The Wonderkids – Part 6: Parry on Regardless

The Wonderkids is an experimentation to see just how far the games potential rating of -1 can take a squad of young players given enough game time to develop. There are 655 players of this nature in the database, but we could only select so many. You can catch up with last week here.

Last week we’d made an almost perfect start to life in Division Two sitting top of the table, unbeaten having only drawn one. Unfortunately, Thomas ‘paper hands’ Sorenson has helped us towards an early exit in the League Cup. I’m also considering sending Curtolo on loan to Brondby to play in their Champions League group stages for a bit of works experience. Here’s a reminder of the table:
