Replicating Sir Alex, Bolton Style – Episode Three | @KibworthBull

Why are we here?

A recap…

I grew up in the 90s/00s and being a football fan, I disliked Sir Alex Ferguson. He won everything at Man United and everyone seemed to be a fan. Now I’ve matured I appreciate that he was the greatest manager there might ever have been. Certainly in the top 5. Looking back it was pure jealousy.

The Sir Alex Ferguson challenge is something that exists in the world of Management Simulation Challenges, more popular in the series that begins with F, than C but it’s certainly something that’s possible within the confines of C.

Sir Alex was in charge of Man United from 1986 to 2013 – a grand total of 27 years, within CM9798 you get until the end of 2025/26 – a very similar time frame.

So far it’s a see of Red – very apt for Man United but lousy for Bolton. The only thing we’ve done is set a managerial transfer record. Not quite what we need…

Football League Trophy Manager 97-98 – P11: The Curious Case of the Bald Hamster & The Missing Belgian | @KingOfTheRooks & The Blog Squad

Welcome back to a blog so dry Zak’s hamster has gone bald from boredom. What have we been feeding you? If you momentarily forgot why you existed, you can catch up here.

We left last week with Rob still top despite a few bumps and the loss of key players.

World According to Warnock Episode 34 | Dirty Leeds | @CornishZak

Hello, welcome to Season 11!

Last season Niall Warnock switched allegiance from Crewe to Leeds, and managed to overhaul a 10 point deficit. Niall managed to save Leeds from relegation whilst simultaneously reaching the FA Cup final. Take that, Colin!

This season Naill switches his focus on Promotion to the Premier League!

It’s been a busy pre-season! Matt Le Tissier junior [Kevin Clarke] joins permanently after being on loan last season. Clarke is joined by Alessandro Pistone, Hungarian U21 player Emil Kovacs, Bolivian playmaker Ricardo Mercado, experienced stopper Alex Manninger, Niall Warnock regulars Kirk Sorvel and Christian Westley, Henning Berg regen Vegar Kvernflaten, and veteran Chris Sutton to replace Alan Shearer. I also add loan signings Cec Dunnett (Craig Short) and Brian Laudrup regen Stefan Borup. Phew.

Geordie Score – Part 16: Jimmy Nail | @Matt_C_Wills

Good morning, it may be Saturday, but I’m writing this up on Thursday, which happens to be the 69th birthday of one of Newcastles most famous sons, Jimmy Nail.

From crocodile shoe wearing actors to Latino football stars, we’re back at St James’ Park for Season 6 of our South American experiment. Last season, vital signings like Ortgea and Ibagaza took us to the league and cup double, and runners up medals in the league cup and Champions League. It was quite the year.

Now however, expectations have risen, can we repeat last seasons heroics and maybe even go one better in Europe?

Well, firstly some reinforcements to help the cause.

For the record he got:

  • 13 * Premier League
  • 10 * FA Charity Shield
  • 5 * FA Cup
  • 4 * League Cup
  • 2 * Champions League
  • 1 * UEFA Cup or Cup Winners Cup
  • 1 * European Super Cup
  • 2 * World Club Cup
  • Make full use of the “Academy” – which on this version of the game means signing Schoolboys so every season there must be Schoolboys signed.
  • Break the Club’s transfer record – at Bolton, currently that was £4.87m for Dean Holdsworth from Wimbledon
  • Break the English Transfer Record Fee – £29.1m for Rio Ferdinand from Leeds in 2002

We’ll kick things off with an FA Cup trip down to Devon and a new signing.

Ian Bishop joins from West Ham United and scores early as our second string see out the game. Some of the fans are disappointed with the signing, but I will accept none of their talk. In fact, there will be no bashing of the bishop when I’m around thank you…

Football League Trophy Manager 97-98 – P10: Goals Galore | @KingOfTheRooks & The Blog Squad

Hello, and welcome back to what happens when you run out of ideas. We’ll try and bring some entertainment out this week, but it’s tough up here in the Scottish third division. If you missed last week, you can peel your retinas off with a bic razor here.

The cups are back, which means little to no league action in this here episode. News just in:

Great Heathen Army: Part 13 – Red Mist | @GoatNmcl

Góðan Dag. Last time out we’d made some decent regen signings (Laudrup/Gudjohnsen/Thorstvedt/Faxe Jensen), farmed the latter 3 out on loan along with Schmeichel’s regen from last year. We’re decently poised in the league in 9th place and are currently sitting pretty at the top of our champions league table with 3 wins out of 3.

So without further ado we start this week at home to Ligeraceater in what I believe to be our first meeting with them in this save. The first half flies by with little quality to speak off. The second half is going the same way so i decide to bring on Laudrup Jnr in the 59th min and it pays immediate dividends as he puts through George to score what ends up as the winner. Leicester have a couple of chances but it’s their keeper who takes the MoM.
