The Wonderkids is back for a second season where we are trying to take a group of players with unlimited potential all the way to the top. You can catch up with from the beginning here.

Here we are again at the start of season two with The Wonderkids staring into the abyss of the Nationwide Division Two following our late promotion dash at the end of last season. The B Team were promoted, debts spiralled, and the board injected £16m. Plus we made two new additions for the new season ahead. Can we make it two promotions on the bounce? We bloody well need to thanks to the release clauses so here goes. Let’s take a refresher of the squad.

The Wonderkids has been inspired by the CM9798 community looking to carve out all the well kept secrets the game has had to offer over the years, and by Dave’s original Academy save – you can catch up on last week here.

Here we are again as we look to finish our first season in charge of some of CM9798’s deadliest talent, desperately seeking promotion to avoid a mass exodus. Last time out we got ourselves stuck in a rut following a run of bad injuries to what had become some key players and that our ‘keepers were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. We’d made a strong addition to the defence and have kept within sniffing distance of the top 4 with 13 games to go. Here’s a reminder of the table:

Welcome back to the life of a Wonderkid. We made a decent start to life in Division Three but haven’t set the world alight. We’ve had some ‘keeper troubles but Sorenson and Manninger appear to be growing with the season. We’ve had some bizarre results and at times have been defensively frail but a lot of our young starlets have less than 5 strength and stamina.

Welcome back to our dive into the CM9798 database where we look to see how the youngsters the CM scouts’ thought would go on to be world beaters can get on given a real opportunity to grow. To sum up, we’ve built a team of young players with unlimited potential of -1 from all over the globe and thrown them into the cut and thrust of men’s football; The Nationwide Football League Division Three where grass would not dare to grow back in 1997. Every release of Championship Manager / Football Manager brings with it the challenge of finding the next Nii Lamptey of the day. Upon exploring the CM9798 database there are a number of young players who have unlimited potential to grow (-1). Most of you will associate this in CM9798 with John Curtis and will timelessly have seen him go on to lift the World Cup as England’s captain, very differently to his real-life career. Then there are many unheard of such as Duarte Constantino and Remco van der Schaaf.

The question that’s been bugging me for so long, and inspired by the journey of ‘The-Academy’, how would a team with the ‘minus touch’ progress through time if they were kept together? Could they go on to be the world beaters you never saw but the researchers always knew they could be? Well ladies and gentlepersons, let me introduce to you…The Wonderkids.
