The Blog Squad FC – Part 2 | @RossBell1984

Happy hump day! Here’s the tallest man I know with today’s Blog Squad update

Welcome back, you join us after a successful start to the season, Lets see if we can carry that form into a strong middle of the season.

A loss to Hartlepool isn’t exactly what I had in mind but a goal for young on loan Alex Notman is the only highlight as he is deputising for an injured Dave.

The Blog Squad FC – Part 1 | @RossBell1984

Welcome! Here in his new hump day home is Ross Bell, with something completely different. He’s been busy in the editor setting up a whole new club based around the writing team on this very site…and some friends we’ve made along the way. Here’s the big man to explain!

Here we go again, after taking on standard seasons on this blog before with two Leeds saves and Liverpool save it was time for me to take to the editor and keep up with my fellow members of the Blog Squad.

The idea being to create all of us and transform a Division 3 club into Blog Squad FC, I chose my hometown team of Mansfield to be wiped from existence and to be replaced with TBS FC. Let’s meet our players

Goalkeeper – Barry Combe, now Barry is not strictly a member of TBS but he became something of a legend in out CLM save being run by Nick. The young Scotland stopper will be our first choice number 1.

Centre Backs – Myself and Andrew Chapman (@Kingoftherooks) when I created all the players I didn’t set any positions, I left everything to random from attributes to positions so myself and Andrew will be the rocks at the back for TBS

Defensive Midfielders – Dean Emson, Rob Tait & Nick Rowe. For my formation to work I need 3dms and whilst Dean and Nick aren’t strictly DM’s Dean being a versatile defender and Nick being a ML they will both work either side of out and out DM Rob Tait.

CM – Matt Wills. I only need one CM for this formation but the editor gave me two, we will come on to the other in a second but Matt will be my lynchpin in central midfield.

Attacking Midfielders – Zak Brockman (AMR) Nathan Gent (AMC) & Philip Verbist (AML) a lot of pressure on these boys as they will need to create lots for the 1 striker! Both Zak and Philip are versatile and can alternate wings whilst Nath is actually my other CM but looks better suited to AMC than Matt.

Striker – Dave Black. The big man himself has the role of banging in the goals with some excellent attributes to lead the line we look in good shape.

So into division 3 we go looking to batter out way through teams on the way to the title.

The first game in Blog Squad history is away at the always dangerous Barnet Sean Devine gets his customary goal but goals for Dave, Nath, Dean and a brace from Matt are enough to seal us a comprehensive 5-2 win on the road.

The first ever game at home ends with us being totally CM’d, encouraging stats though we appear to be dominating.

A tricky start to the season on paper isn’t quite that tricky in reality. Hull faced the sword with goals from Dave, Myself and blog squad favourites Tomlinson and Twiss, I had to fill in the squad somehow so tried to get as many favs as possible. You’ll even notice a cheeky sub spot being given to Barry Venison.

Home form seems to be difficult to come by as we were 2-0 andn then 3-1 up in this game before throwing it completely away. Zak bags his first of the season however.

Back on the road and back in the goals, Zak makes it two in two there’s no stopping Dave who bags a couple and Tomlinson chips in with a 4th.

Finally a win at home and a comfortable one at that. Zak is on fire with 3 in 3 Matt gets his 3rd of the season with Tomlinson baging another 2 goals.

A disappointing 1-0 loss away at Exeter followed, We couldn’t seem to take the chances in this one.

How do you follow up a poor away performance, You play Rotherham and smash 6 past them. 2 for me, 2 fo Wills and 1 a piece for Tomlinson and Twiss. Rout

an Away trip to Darlo next and another comprehensive victory Zak, Matt, Dave and Graeme with the goals only let down by myself getting a straight red card when we were 4-0 up

We have added to the squad with Alan Pardew, the Micker & Steve Hodge.

That’s where I will leave things this week. We are in the top 3 with us and Orient being the early pace setters.

Until next time.

Leeds Redux – Part 5 | @RossBell1984

It’s the final visit to Elland Road for this series as Ross looks to finish on a high with Leeds. It has been going quite well but…are the wheels starting to come off?

Here we are then, This season has been a resounding success. I’m nowhere near relegation and I’ve got some goal scorers, Life is good.

Life could also be better though however after twice going ahead in this one away at Barnsley we contrive to rescue a draw from the jaws of victory. Alfie getting a red card certainly didn’t help things. Never mind I’m sure it’s just a blip.

Leeds Redux – Part 4 | @RossBell1984

It’s the penultimate episode of Ross trying to make Leeds great again again and the question on everybody’s lips is…can Rod Wallace finish what he started?

Here we go again then, when I left you last Rod Wallace was on fire and we were flying. What could go wrong.

Well we could go away to Coventry and lose that’s what. An early Moldovan goal is all it takes in a toothless effort from the Leeds strikers.
Knew I shouldn’t have praised them so much last week .

Leeds Redux – Part 3 | @RossBell1984

The weekend has arrived! Ross is here to start your Saturday in style as he continues to rebuild Leeds in 1997. Gromit is delighted…

Ahoy-hoy, it’s that time of the week again where we take a trip to sunny Yorkshire.
When I was last here we were losing to Man U, which although unforgivable is understandable, having Oleg Luzhny being MOTM against you in another losing effort is both unforgivable and not even understandable. At least I’ve got Jimmy firing this time around.

Leeds Redux – Part 2 | @RossBell1984

Happy Weekend! Ross is here to start your Saturday with a bang as he tries to rebuild Leeds again again.

Ahoy-hoy! When I last left you we had just suffered defeat to Wimbledon. Lets see if we can get back on track this week.

First up we’ve got Chelsea, always a tough ask on this game but thankfully for me Hasselbaink and Bowyer prove too much for them and we proceed to pick up a good win.

Leeds Redux – Part 1 | @RossBell1984

You may remember earlier in the year when Ross tried – and failed – to make Leeds United a force again. Spurred on by their real life achievements, Ross is back in the dugout in 1997 to give it another go…

Let’s try this again shall we! Way back in January 2020 back when things were normal and no one ever wore a facemask I took on a task set to me by our overlord here Dave to try and have a successful season with Leeds…It went badly to say the very least, we survived relegation on the final day thanks to a 0-0 draw with Wimbledon.

So let’s run it back, we’ve all had time to grow and learn, let’s see if I can make it work 8 months down the road.

First up just like last time is Spurs, this time it’s different, not massively we still fail to actually beat them but a 1-1 draw is sure better than a 4-3 loss! Oh yeah you may notice some much smarter signings this time around. Emmers and Page lead me to a league title with Liverpool and I needed an AMC so please welcome Par Zetterberg to partner David Hopkin in the AMC roles.

Back on their perch – Part 6 | @RossBell1984

Ross has reached the end of the 1997/98 season but can Liverpool manage one last push to beat Man Utd to the Premier League title? Catch up with part 5 here.

Here we go then, It’s been a while to build tension. We’ve all had some time to think about what we are doing with our lives. I’ve had the boys in for extra training and group hug sessions and we are primed and ready to go.

4 games left starting with Man U at Anfield, a win here and we are as good as champions with our remaining games.

Back on their perch – Part 5 | @RossBell1984

Time to check in on Ross and his pursuit of glory with Liverpool. He might be the real life team at this rate…

I’m back again trying to get Liverpool that elusive Premier League trophy a mere 22 years before they finally managed it.

First game this time is home to Newcastle, Shearer somehow escapes a red after elbowing Matteo in the first min, things are looking bad until Bakayoko pops in a winner with 4 mins to go. Title race still on.
